【NZ語学研修】Maori Culture

The students went back to Tairua school to discover Maori culture. In the morning classes, they learned about the ancient life and culture of the New Zealand Maori, but also learned a few Maori words. They also performed some songs and were introduced to specific Maori designs.

Every hour, students also have 20-minute breaks which give them the opportunity to talk and play with the local students. The pupils from Tairua school invited our students to play their local games; some familiar, others less.

In the afternoon, we joined the class of a local Maori teacher who explained the meaning of the Haka and performed it with the students. This was very exciting for everyone involved. Then students finished the school day with the traditional Ti Rakau game for some and flower weaving for others.

Although the school day was finished. the day wasn't. At 7 p.m., many of our students went to Kennedy Park in Pauanui to participate in the local fire fighter training. This event was organized by the Pauanui Fire station. People could learn how to use a fire hose through a "water soccer" game. You can see through the smile of our students everyone had a lot of fun. We would like to thank all the people from Pauanui community who made this possible.
