Japanese traditional dance (JHS 3)
As part of the New Zealand program, 3rd grade students are going to introduce some aspects of Japanese culture to New Zealanders. Dance is one of these elements. Every year, students learn a different traditional Japanese dance from Mrs. Fujima Kimitomo (藤間勢三朋先生).
During 3 days, for 2 hours each day, boys and girls have learned seperate dances. This was also the opportunity for all the girls to wear a traditional Japanese yukata and for the boys to put on a happi coat.
The boys are performing on a high-paced music called "senbonzakura" (千本桜). The dance is also very dynamic.
The girls are dancing on a traditional Fukui song called "Maruokajyou monogatari" (丸岡城物語). The dance is very elegant and requires gracious movements.
These 3 days have been a wonderful experience for all involved. The students now have 6 more weeks to perfect their dance before performing in New Zealand.
